ARION does not sail under institutional flag. No agency will ever fund an Antarctic circumnavigation by sailboat south of 60°S. What we are doing, no one else is doing, and no one will do it for us.
Research cruises sail north. ARION will be in southern seas, a zone nearly untouched by sailing-based collection. Rarely documented cetaceans (including Type D orcas below 60°S), oceanography, polar weather: the time series Sarah will gather simply do not exist yet.

South of 60°S, successive depressions push swells to 12–15 metres. Sarah, a marine biologist, runs her watch and her observation protocol at the same time. What she collects (Type D orca positions, behaviours of rarely documented cetaceans, oceanographic parameters) will come from no one else.
