The film

Synopsis

The main film is yet to be shot. It will follow ARION from Marseille to Antarctica, weaving together onboard footage, logbook entries and scientific data collected at sea.

Odyssey of AION will tell the story of a departure from the dock that turns into a shift of scale : leaving the Mediterranean, committing to the Atlantic, then tipping over toward the deep South.

From Mediterranean ports to Atlantic marinas, from the trade winds to Southern depressions, the film will document ARION's progress : repairs, watches through the night, routing decisions and confrontations with a sea that negotiates nothing.

The scientific measurements collected onboard will form a second narrative : the story of the ocean itself, observed at the waterline, far from buoys and satellites.

Finally, the feature will close on the Drake Passage and the ice of Antarctica, posing a simple question : what does one really bring back from such a voyage ?

Structure

A narrative in chapters

The edit will follow ARION's actual route : each chapter will dig into one type of sea, one human stake and one scientific question.

Chapter 1

Leaving the dock

Marseille, the goodbyes, the meticulous preparation of the yacht and the first rupture : accepting to live by the rhythm of the boat, far from the safety nets of land.

Chapter 2

Inhabited routes

Ibiza, Las Palmas, Mindelo : ports, encounters, repairs. The cameras will capture the tension between postcard images and the invisible work of preparation.

Chapter 3

The Atlantic as laboratory

The transat will become a floating laboratory : data collection, watch routines, fatigue, doubts and tactical decisions facing an ocean that will not be framed.

Chapter 4

Patagonia, dress rehearsal

The fjords, the gales, the exposed anchorages. ARION will be put to the test, and the film will show the mental shift toward the deep South.

Chapter 5

Drake : the threshold

The Drake Passage as a symbolic frontier. Weather decisions will become central, the camera will catch the violence, but also the micro-moments of calm in the chaos.

Chapter 6

Into the white

Arrival in Antarctica. The film will slow down, give space to silence, to the ice, and to the final question : what does one really bring back from such a voyage ?

Production

For producers and co-producers

The project is open to associate co-production before any rights assignment. What follows sets the indicative frame : budget, rights, distribution, tone, partner visibility. The full production dossier and pitch deck are available on request, under non-disclosure agreement.

Indicative budget

~ €250 to €500k

Feature-length 4K documentary, fully captured onboard by the crew, with editing and post-production outsourced. The range depends on choices around mixing, color grading, original score and archive rights.

Rights

Open to co-production

Associate co-production possible prior to worldwide rights assignment. Editorial co-development possible on the chapter structure and voice-over. Final call on expedition matters remains onboard during filming.

Target distribution

Festivals, then TV / platform

Adventure and mountain festival circuit in year one (Banff, FICA Annecy, the major European adventure film festivals and equivalents), followed by a sale to a documentary broadcaster or streaming platform. Short-form versions for science outreach and higher education.

Tone

Observational documentary

Slow observational register, voice-over drawn from the logbook, footage shot close to the gesture. No heroic-adventure framing, no overlaid music to manufacture tension. The real is enough. A deliberate preference for duration and silence.

Partner visibility

Title cards, rushes access, private screening

  • Partner title card before the opening credits and in the end credits, scaled to co-production tier
  • Mention in the press kit and festival promotional materials
  • Access to rushes for the partner's editorial and marketing use, under negotiated terms
  • Private pre-festival screening for the partner and their stakeholders
  • Crew availability for round tables or Q&A sessions around the release

Distribution & film partnerships

The film is designed for a double life : theatres, festivals and digital release, but also short-form versions for teaching and science outreach. If you are a producer, broadcaster or institutional partner, you can get in touch now.
